Applications: Ground-Truth Remote Sensing


Remote Sensing is widely used in geology and mineral exploration for a variety of mapping applications.  Hyperspectral surveys can provide detailed information regarding the mineralogy and alteration of a given site, but this data MUST be ground-truthed to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the survey.


Field spectrometers are used to acquire ground level spectral signatures that can be used to remove atmospheric effects and provide ground truth for classification of the airborne hyperspectral scenes.

This can include:

  • Image checking
  • Mineral classification
  • Accuracy assessment sampling
  • Sensor calibration
